My Story
Over the Years
1972
- Born in George, grew up in Pietermaritzburg, spent seven years in the Drakensberg and now living in the seaside town of Fish Hoek, South Africa.
1990
- Committed my life to Jesus on a rural hillside while attending a church youth camp. I’ve been working out my salvation ever since with a whole lot of grace.
2000
- Married Lara. We have two incredible young adult children. Family life is a creative joy with a writer, graphic designer, chocolatier and musician in the house.
2007
- Began leading Scripture Union’s national ministry to the traditional private church schools in South Africa after some local church youth pastoring and school chaplaining.
2018
- Entered the world of content creation by editing SU’s online mag, developing a Higher Certificate in Youth Ministry course for TEE College and creating a 40 day spiritual formation journey for teens.
2024
- Started working with Follower and spend my days reading and writing, and sharing about formational leadership in the context of ministry with young people.
What I do
With my time
I work with Follower, focussing on formational leadership
within the context of ministry with young people.
Companioning
Life is busy and demanding, and we all need safe listening spaces to explore our internal world. So, I meet with individuals to prayerfully help them pay attention to God’s activity in their lives.
Connecting
There is a richness in unity and we have so much to learn from one another. Stirred to be a ‘son of encouragement’ to the local church, I work across various traditions to this end.
Facilitating
Lasting spiritual formation happens best within community. Grounded in this belief, I facilitate small group journeys for youth leaders and teenagers.
Writing
The keyboard is my weapon of choice to flesh out my questions. Locally brewed with an international flavour, I write regularly to reflect on formational leadership within the context of ministry with young people.
Developing
With a background in education, curriculum development is always on my radar. TEE College’s Higher Certificate in youth Ministry, The Forgotten Movement and The RFM Advance are fruits of this labour.
Engaging
There is such value in listening to the stories of others. The Remember the Way podcast is all about conversations with those leading in the context of ministry with young people.
